Why do torches pop

A flashback, is usually dirty tips combined with poor gas flow regulation and such. I would not blame the equipment yet. I would also use a fine file, and file the face of the tip off.

Just enough to take the orifice shape back to a squared off 90 degree edge, a true cylindrical shape, with no rounded edges. You would file before running the tip cleaner through. If you have a fresh new out of the box tip, I would put that in and give it a whirl.

Good luck! Brian Lee Sparkeee Play Safe - Be Safe Thanks, Farris MillerMatic very satisfied with it! Millermatic X sold it, never want another one! Yeah, that is what my new Victor did the other day. The tip wasn't seated quite right.

It was tight, but not seating correctly. Swapped tips and all was well in Torchville. Don Go Spurs Go!!!!!! These are all good pointers.

Follow the recommended PSI settings, and make sure they are right. Make sure you have everything set up correctly, and all connections are sealed and NOT leaking. Test with soapy water. Sorry, I didn't notice your post above stating you did purchase a tip for natural gas. By weldgault Date The head of the torch needs to be reseated and a new tip. When you reseat the head, always use a new tip. By Date By KSellon Date I will have to agree with Tim. Popping is caused by a faulty seal of the tip to head seat.

Everytime it pops you get a flame kick back to the mixer, eventually it will burn out your mixer. Make sure your tip nut is snug. May 3 Did you know that gas flames produce infrared radiation? Take it apart and replace those too. The Purox set I have won't throttle worth a crap. If you try to reduce the flame it will pop and fart, go lean, go rich and generally piss me off. The torch system I like best is Dockson. Throttles well and holds it's settings. I am still having the problem. When I posted it was fixed, the medium tip was on the torch.

It is a serious problem and I do not have a clue. Something about the large tip. What is inside a brazing-welding tip? Anything special? Just copper pipe squeezed down at the end is what I think and drilled orfice hole for gas to exit. I took apart the entire torch handle.

Valves, mixer, tip. I am soaking it in vinegar. It is all black carbon inside. It only burns in the handle with large tip and sounds wrong. I can post some pics later. The rosebud head also fails in the same way, causes torch handle to heatup. I guess from it combusting in the handle. I am original owner, set was new, it all fits fine. For a pencit tip of 1. I have enough gas pressure, I can blow out the flame off the tip by opening the valves.

I just replaced both tanks, they are almost full. JBdairy Registered. I think your psi is too low on your oxygen. I would think 35 to 40 should be more like it. Seen it lots with a heating rose. They hog gas and people think they can run them on the same settings as a cutting torch.

Over here it's rare to see a set without suppressors between the regs and hoses. They are supposed to stop the burn back getting to the bottle. Here is my torch. I only have the one mixer, so I screw on various pencil tips.

The largest pencil and the rose bud, which is almost unused both burn in the handle. Only the 2 smaller pencils work. The large tip used to work, I always used it until this problem occured some time ago and I switched to the smaller pencil tip.

The large cutter, I lit only once time when set was new, it worked then, but now probably wont. The valves, the ball on the end has corroded. Can you get new stems or valves? Anyone have part number.
